#GivingTuesday – November 28, 2017

Hannah & Friends will be joining ‪#‎GivingTuesday‬ hoping to channel the generous spirit of the holiday season and to inspire action around charitable giving. On November 28, 2017 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving with purpose. This #GivingTuesday we ask for you to support Hannah & Friends. Help us take the ‘dis’ out of disability and raise money for kids and adults with different abilities. Money raised will support our programs – music, cooking, art, animal club, basketball, dances, and karaoke nights. Stay tuned for more information!

Science Alive Week

This week at summer camp it was Science Alive Week! Over the course of the week we did tons of fun experiments and even had a few special guest! One of our favorite guests this week was Miss Tracey, a florist from Martin’s Supermarkets. Tracey talked to the campers about all of the different types of flowers and which ones are the most popular. We learned that the most popular flower sold on Mother’s Day is a rose or a potted plant! Tracey talked about how flowers are like giving someone a big hug, because they bring so much joy and love to the person you give them to. Our campers loved getting their very own ‘hug!’ Thanks for coming to visit us Tracey, we loved hanging out with you!

Summer Camp: Art-Rageous Week

This week at Hannah & Friends our theme was Art-Rageous! We had a blast making crafts and hosting special guests. On Thursday afternoon we were lucky enough to have Sarah from the Snite Art Museum at Notre Dame come to visit us. The campers loved learning about all of the different kinds of sculptures the art museum has to offer. She showed our campers some photos of different sculptures they could create and the possibilities were endless. The campers then had a chance to put their creativity skills to work and create their own sculptures out of pool noodles, pipe cleaners, beads, and foam pieces. Each creation was unique and different. Thank you, Sarah and the Snite Art Museum!

Summer Camp: Fun and Fitness Week

Our first week of summer camp was an absolute blast. This week we focused on our ‘Fun and Fitness’ theme. Our campers learned about different sports, how to eat healthy, and even had a visit from a few special guests. Over the four days we learned how to play basketball, soccer, tennis and kickball. A dietitian came in to talk about food groups and make us some yummy energy bars. We even had a special visit from a personal trainer, a Zumba instructor, and members from the Lake Michigan College basketball team. Over the four days we made seven different sports crafts, some of which included solo cup basketball hoops, paper plate tennis racquets, and mini sports flags. Our staff is looking forward to a great summer with such an energetic and fun group! Check out a few photos from the week below.
