Winter/Spring 2012 Program Descriptions

Day Program

Our day program will be an opportunity to blend functional living skills with socialization, fitness, responsibility, and awareness of the world in which we live. We will explore, discuss, and record current events. Each day, after lunch, we will focus on a program called "Walk a Mile in My Shoes." Some famous, and some not so famous, individuals living with a disability will be introduced to our day programmers. Video clips, memoirs, newspaper clippings, or news coverage will be used to allow our participants to see not only theherothat these individuals have become, but to realize theherothat dwells within each one of them. After this discussion, we will head outside to walk a mile on our beautiful forty acres! Of course, as our fitness and determination to live as a hero increases, so will our miles! The remainder of our afternoon will be spent on a variety of activities that will be introduced over time. These activities will include cooking, household duties, "Manners Matter," some games and discussion involving etiquette and proper ways to show respect to each other, "Money Matters," simple methods of banking, or handling of personal funds, occasional crafts, YouTube experiences introducing Hannah and Friends to the world, a book club, games, and an occasional movie matinee! Plenty to do and plenty of time to have fun! Hannah and Friends is a haven for heroes; come and be one of them!

Hannah and Friends asks that individuals requiring 1-on-1 assistance please attend with an aide. Participants are to bring a lunch to eat. The Game Time activity is included in Day Program- participants signed up for Day Program on Thursdays between 3-4pm will also be participating in Game Time.
