Maura and Charlie Weis attend dinner in Kansas to share mission of Hannah and Friends

An event scheduled for Friday, July 23, includes special guests Charlie and Maura Weis who will be speaking on behalf of their nonprofit organization, Hannah & Friends. The event will be hosted by Bill and Kathleen Helming in Olathe.

The Weis family recently moved from South Bend, Indiana, but left their hearts with the charity's 40-acre property that offers a housing program for adults and children with special needs. Additionally, the organization features regular events, including children's parties, holiday celebrations, and summer camps.

The couple has been asked to tell the story of founding Hannah & Friends in recognition of their daughter, Hannah, who has been diagnosed with Electical Status Epilepticus.

"I felt this would be a great opportunity to bring the Weis family's mission to their new home in Kansas City," said Tiahrt. "Vicki and I want them to know Kansans are supportive of the good work they do on behalf of children with special needs. We hope they are welcomed and that their mission for helping children can flourish here."

Tiahrt has championed legislation supporting children and adults with special needs and has been involved with several projects that support people with disabilities and special needs.

"It's been disappointing that some have engaged in political smear tactics involving Mr. Weis," said Tiahrt campaign spokesperson Michelle Schroeder. "Todd and Vicki invited Mr. and Mrs. Weis as special guests to tomorrow's event to highlight the work they do with special needs children. We have not sought an endorsement from Mr. Weis, nor is he a host of the event. Todd's campaign is honored to have them attend, and we look forward to hearing more Friday about their message and mission for special needs children."
