Hannah and Friends Neighborhood
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements for my loved one to live at Hannah and Friends?
Hannah and Friends supports only people with intellectual disabilities. Additionally, you must have a funding stream such as the Medicaid Waiver in order to pay for the staffing supports. Private payment is accepted.
What role does Mosaic play at Hannah and Friends?
Mosaic provides the residential supports 24 hours a day, seven days a week in each of the Hannah and Friends homes. Services are based on the needs of each person served. The supports provided assist people in becoming more independent in home management, vocational skills, community mobility, and transportation and recreation and leisure activities. You can learn more about Mosaic by going to www.mosaicinfo.org/granger.
What is the difference between a group home and waiver site?
The Medicaid Wavier Program allows Medicaid to pay for supports to allow adults with disabilities to live in their own home or community-based residential program, supports to help people move out of nursing homes or other large facilities, and supports to families caring for a loved one at home. Family income and resources are not counted when determining Medicaid eligibility for children receiving Medicaid waiver services. In most cases, there are long waiting lists to get services from a Medicaid waiver. Learn more about Indiana's Medicaid Waiver Program by going to www.arcind.org/index/Help-for-Families/Indiana-Medicaid-Waiver-Program.asp.
In contrast, a group home is an Indiana State Department of Health licensed facility in which persons with developmental disabilities may live. There is 24-hour supervision by paid staff that assists and trains each resident in order to develop daily living skills. These residences may be facilities for nine or more residents (large private ICF/MR) run by private companies or group homes for four to eight residents (small ICF/MR). Each resident has a program plan based upon his/her needs. Group homes are also funded by Medicaid. There are limited group homes for children. Family income is not counted when determining Medicaid eligibility for children living in a Medicaid funded group home. Eligibility determination and placement is made through the Bureau of Developmental Disability Services. Call: 800-545-7763.
